Use Gmail As Your Storage Drive

Google is now offering over 4Gb of free webmail space and the capacity is growing each second. It’s so popular many people have transformed Gmail to a new storage space. Imagine a new hard drive, totaly free, with a quick access from “My Computer”. Cool new backup utility. This is actually available under a name Gmail Drive and it’s a Shell Namespace Extension (SNE) that creates a virtual filesystem around your Gmail account, allowing you to use Gmail as a storage medium.

“GMail Drive creates a virtual filesystem on top of your Google Gmail account and enables you to save and retrieve files stored on your Gmail account directly from inside Windows Explorer. GMail Drive literally adds a new drive to your computer under the My Computer folder, where you can create new folders, copy and drag’n'drop files to.”

You install it on your computer and access it through Windows Explorer. Since this is not Google’s official software it only supports Windows OS so bad news for Linux and Mac users. After you copy and upload a file to Gmail drive it appears on your Gmail account as an attachment to a new email message.

All this makes you understand gmail is the best account you can pocess.

Well, in fact «Since this is not Google’s official software it only supports Windows OS so bad news for Linux and Mac users» is not true: it seems that google and only google develops on linux and mac (!)
There is gmailfs, a fuse client written in python. Don’t know about macs
