Mountain View company just can’t run out of ideas. They are now testing a powerful flash-based search engine called SearchMash that can proudly stand next to its big brother Google. They have implemented flash technology into their search engine and I must say it looks pretty cool. When I first heard the news I thought how can flash be fast but SearchMash convinced me. The user interface is smooth and clean and what’s most important, fast. It’s as fast as the “regular” Google. The SERPs are powered by thumbnails of websites that show on the right side after you click on a search result. The thumbnail preview runs Snap service. Here’s what it says in the SearchMash FAQ:
“This is where detailed information about the currently selected result appears. For web results this may include an image preview of the website, a brief snippet from the page, and additional links. The links allow you to go straight to the site homepage, perform the same search including results only from that site, and open a cache of the page in case it is no longer available.”
Besides the neat interface, SearchMash is full of secret tips and tricks that appear every now and them and help you improve your search experience by revealing some advanced features. All in all, I like it. What can I say, I’m a big crazy fan of Web 2.0.
