If you’ve ever wondered what happens to your brain, mind and conscious when you go on a Salvia trip, then you’re not alone. I was wondering exactly the same thing and, being the inquisitive type, I decided to go and do some research into the matter. I’m glad I did. Essentially Salvia — and other psychoactive, dissociative drugs — tend to mess with your mind a little bit. I’m not against Salvia anymore now; it’s still as safe as it was before I started my research.
Hallucinations and a standard Salvia trip is just the outward manifestation of your brain being starved of information. Psychoactive drugs just stop your brain from processing the signals that it receives from the outside world properly, so while it might see a table and chairs in the corner of the room, it does not recognize it as a table and chairs, and it cannot differentiate it from the curtain that lies behind it, nor the lamp that sits on it. As you move, so does the images your brain is receiving, and again this confuses things further.
As the effect of the drug wears off, so more and more of these signals to the brain are processed properly, and you are able to understand what is going on again.
