Quick Photoshop Tip: Warped Effect

Today I’m brining some fresh content to MarketFederation. Instead of usual posts you’re used to, tonight I give you a little Photoshop tutorial. This is a very simple and quick technique that will show you how to make your images look warped. This is used a lot in advertising industry so I thought it could be useful to you. I’m no Photoshop master but I’ve learned few tricks over time so I’ll do my best to entertain you. You can fetch the PSD file here.

1. As our model I’ll use a picture of a nice BMW 3 series found on e46fanatics web forum. This is how it looks in the beginning.

2. What you will do first is create another layer. To do this, right-click the current layer (in the last option box) and click duplicate layer as shown in the picture below.

3. Now select your new layer (first one) as you working layer and go to the menu Filter and choose Blur->Radial Blur. Here you can play with settings but I’ll use Amount: 100, Method: Zoom and Quality: Best. You should see something like this:

4. After you have done that, go to the same option box where you manage your layers and select Opacity level down to 50% - 60% so you have a clear image of your model.

5. Now choose the Eraser tool from your toolbox and select the size of your brush to some 20 - 30 (I used 25 in the example) and erase your model with it. Be careful to clear your model only and leave the rest alone.

6. Set the Opacity level back to 100% to see the changes. Now all you need to do more is go to the menu Image -> Adjustments -> Levels and play with it a little untill you get what you want. Here’s the final product. When a smartphone does this all in the phone, the power of processing is said to have advanced.
