Is it already time to publish your article and you don’t have anything written yet? Try our super mental-block remover, only 4,99$! No I’m just kidding but I know it can be a real pain in the neck sometimes. Everybody experiences mental blockade in his career as a blogger and there’s really not much you can do about it to get over it instantly but these following tips should help a bit. Usualy bloggers running technical blogs experience mental blocks more often than people running personal blogs but here are some tips for all of you in general.
1. News
Whenever you have absolutely nothing to write about, write about something that happened lately. Fire up Yahoo and Google news, search through Cnet and E! Online and find relevant news about something in your niche. Don’t get used to it but it’s nothing wrong with posting news on your blog once in a while. If you’re already doing it be sure to include your own opinion. This is higly important because people can read news elswhere too, why should they fill up their RSS readers with rubbish? Express yourself and tell your visitors what you think about a certain topic.
2. Play Dr. Phil
For your whole life you listen people talk about how you need to live your life and what you should and shouldn’t do. Stop taking advices and start giving some. It’s interesting to play counsel sometimes and you can definitly help your visitors as long as you share experiences from personal hard-learned lessons. Don’t talk trash because that’s not useful to anyone, offer your readers suggestions of frequently repeated problems in your niche area. Show them how to not run in those same problems you did. Help them, be dr. Phil.
3. Talk, talk, talk
Talk with your readers! Your blog doesn’t neccessary need to be a regular boring one-way conversation blog, it can be much more than that. Communication is important so start talking and use your blog as a forum. Start discussions and debates and you’ll be surprised how good response rate you can get. People love to talk and share their opinions on the subject. There’s always something to talk about or something to comment, especially if it’s higly important like PageRank update or Britney Spears naked pictures.
4. Resurrection
Bring life to your dead articles. Writing articles on a subject once does not mean you can’t write about it again. Things change every day and something you wrote about few months ago could be old news today so this is a good time to resurrect your articles and re-write them with updated information or write a new one on the subject. Don’t be limited only to your topics, read comments and replies to your posts and start another discussion based on that. You can find many good ideas reading visitor’s comments.
5. Favorites
Got favorite wordpress themes or phpBB mods? Share them with your community. Make a list of things you like most and publish it on your blog. People like lists of top, beautiful and coolest things that can be used for their own business. Now don’t get copycat on that because nobody likes things seen already a hundred times, invest some time into your little project and recommend stuff that can’t be seen so often like online generators, web 2.0 logos, photoshop brushes…
When it seems like there is nothing to write about help your readers find quality content by recommending articles from the blogosphere. When no ideas sindrom strikes, link love is a good thing to do so don’t hesitate to link to other bloggers and give your visitors something fresh to read about and your fellow bloggers some link love.
Thanx Dan for fixing all those links.
