Million Dollar Wiki - Generating Buzz, Generating Money?

MillionDollarWiki is a site started by Graham Langdon, a student at the University of Connecticut. It’s an encyclopedia based on MediaWiki system operating similar as a MillionDollarHomepage. Graham plans to sell 10,000 pages for 100$/page and he hopes to make a whopping one million dollars. The website is guaranteed to be online for at least fifteen years.

MillionDollarWiki is generating a lot of buzz lately and bloggers started buying pages like a mad man, there have been over 900 pages sold as I write this and looks like the hype won’t stop any time soon. Now I’m not sure about the future of this project and I can’t guarantee this is worth your money but you have to do something quickly if you want popular keywords.

People, as always, argue about the whole thing, mostly because they’re jelaous they didn’t come up with the idea so it started a lot of discussions about it and people started talking. Yep, people as people, talking trash when they have nothing to say that’s why I’m going to purchase a page just for the sake of irritating the haters.

You’re buying a page for 100$ knowing you’ll own it for at least 15 years and you can do whatever you want with it. You can direct the traffic to your own blog/site, you can put AdSense on it or try to make money with affiliate programs, or you can just sell links and ad spots on there. There are numerous ways to generate revenue with it and if you don’t get those 100$ back withing 15 years you really shouldn’t be making money anywhere.

People are all over it and bloggers write about it every day so MillionDollarWiki has a potential of jumping from PR0 to PR6-7 within a year or so and even if you do absolutely nothing with your page, you’ll get a high PR backlink for your own blog/site. The author is a genius and if you ask me, it’s worth a hundred bucks.

I’ve been tracking this project from the early beginning, and I must say it really is worth $100. The best way in my opinion would be to find a good niche (there must be some left) and put some affiliate links on it.

I have the Money page on MDW and we are posting the earning of people on the site at http://www.milliondollarwiki.com/Money Not bad I must say for a couple of weeks.

Now I remember what I’ve forgot to mention in my post, the Money subpage. I think it’s an excellent idea but I don’t think everybody is generous enough to share their earning stats with you.

Yes I know of course that not everyone is willing to share or show how much they make from the site, but I do know that the Money page is higher in the rankings so people love having an extra link to their page whenever they can get it. Plus this site is currently over 10% of its goal. As this builds there will be a lot more support behind the site. I would venture that the site sells over 10,000 pages before the end of 2008.

Well, if they (pages) continue to sell as they do now, Million Dollar Wiki will be sold out in the middle of 2008 but the hype is usualy at its best in the beginning and then the buzz starts to lay low and doesn’t attract that much attention anymore. I don’t know, he has 9,000 more pages to go.

I noticed John Chow made over 200$ with the MDW, I thought he claimed in one of his posts he made over a thousand.

Hey guys,

This is shameless promotion:

We just launched http://FiveDollarWiki.com where you can buy links for 5 bucks!

The only difference is money here, the content would be about the same.

This is top secret:

On the sidenote, we are working on our Top Secret, http://OneBuckWiki.com which we will launch in few days but don’t tell anyone yet. Shhhh….

We are also looking for couple people to build content. Basically we will hook you up with free pages and you have to put some good content right away.

You can email me at max [at] fivedollarwiki.com

I’ve got an Amazon gift certificate burning holes in my pocket,
and I want to get the most bang for my buck.

Enter the Secret Amazon Web Pages:

Amazon Secret Web Pages

This is where you’re going to find the “latest sales, rebates, and limited-time offers” from
Amazon, and you can score some pretty deep discounts if you’re a savvy shopper.

Next, there’s the special Sale link. This is open every Friday, and ONLY on Fridays.

You can find the same good discounts here as you would in hidden Deals, although some
Fridays you can really get lucky and make off like an Amazon bandit - I’ve seen discounts
there as low as 75% off sticker price.
