This is a series of five short posts about writing good linkbait articles. I could have put it all into one post but that would be too big for a blog so I decided to split it to five parts.
Articles are ultimate traffic generators that drive traffic long time after you’ve published them but do you know how to properly write linkbait articles? You don’t need to be a scientist to write an article, anybody can do that, just use your own words and choose a topic you won’t have problems finding readers for. I’ll show you how to write linkbait articles in five easy steps:
1. Hot linkbait title
Title is the most important part of all parts of an article. If you make a mistake at the very beginning and set up a boring title people won’t even bother to read the whole article because the title will turn them away. A title needs to grab the eyes and attention of a reader and the best way to do that is to use the question method.
- Question method
The question method has a very strong effect on people, it just pulls them into the article because they want to see what is it all about. Intead of a regular headline such as “Sphinn is very good social bookmarking website” you should say “Is Sphinn better than Digg?”, that way you’ll get at least 50% more visitors than you would get with the first headline.
- How to method
Next method is called how to method which, obviously, attracts readers by providing them exact solutions they need. Howtos are very popular and they’re mostly used in tutorials and guides so don’t hesitate to try them on your own articles. “How to increase your Adsense earnings?” sound much better than “Increase your Adsense earnings” and will definitly attract more traffic than the second title which sounds too everydayish.
- Magic numbers
The third method uses numbers (like in fairytales) and it’s called the number method. Numbers have always been part of our everyday lives and since we use them everywhere, why couldn’t we use them in headlines? Can you spot a difference between these two? “5 Easy steps in SEO for Wordpress” and “SEO for Wordpress”. Which one would you rather click? Don’t forget that you can always combine the last two methods to create even more hard-to-resist headlines.
Tommorow I’ll talk about introduction and opening sentence. Check back for more juicy tips.
