How To Hide Articles From The Front Page In Wordpress

I came up with an idea of adding another, unique, section to my website that would handle news only posts but they would not suppose to be visible on the front page of my Wordpress blog. So one solution would be to install another WP blog which would take another MySQL domain, more space and more precious bandwidth. A lot of work for a simple thing, I changed my mind and thought there must be some other, easier, way to acomplish this and then I fired up Google. There are like gazillion plugins and widgets for Wordpress so I was sure there is a plugin that does exactly what I want. Advanced Category Excluder is the name.

With Advanced Category Excluder (ACE) plugin you can define categories for some parts of the site to be hidden. You can find the “ACE Dashboard” under Plugins tab. It has five sections. Now it’s: archive, home, rss posts, rss comments and search.

Since Wordpress itself does not have such function built in its core, we’ll have to satisfy with previously mentioned plugin. It’s not perfect but it gets the job done. The installation is really simple, after you have uploaded and activated ACE you should see ACE Dashboard in your Plugins menu.

Follow it and it will take you to the plugin’s core. There you have all your categories listed with a checkbox in front of each one of them. So how do you hide posts from the front page? Create a new category called whatever you want and then publish posts to that specific category. If you want to hide that post from the index, just go to ACE Dashboard and check the category box and click OK. You’re set.
