Facebook Is A Paradise For Internet Criminals

If you have a cable, you’re not safe. I think we’re all aware of the bad sides of internet and it’s privacy, simply because there is none. You can’t hide on the internet but is it wise to publish your personal data on social networking websites? By revealing your real information you’re taking a chance of getting hacked. Hacked in a way of someone stealing your identity and using it for his filthy purposes. Facebook is a paradise for internet criminals.

Few days ago there was a talk show on BBC about consumer’s rights and they demonstrated how easy it is to steal someone’s ID. They created a profile on Facebook called Amba Friend and added a random photo of a 20-year old girl. After the set-up they’ve invited 100 users to become “her” friends. Out of 100, 35 took bait and one of them was Scott Gould (23). He used his real personal info on Facebook and by becoming friends with Amba Friend “she” was granted access to all of his data which was used to open an electronic bank account on his name and managed to get a credit card.

They didn’t use it for anything illegal, they just wanted to show how easy it is for internet criminals to spoof someone’s identity. Now there’s over 45,000,000 users registered on Facebook and not even half of them use any kind of protection.

Scary isn’t it?
