To attract and gain readers you will have to do a good promotion of your blog such as posting on social bookmarking websites daily, participating in forums, doing offline promotion… but unique visitors are not something you should be absolutely thrilled about (I’m not saying you should ignore it). You know someone will visit your blog eventualy (with a good promotion), that’s not the problem, the real deal are returning visitors. That should be your ultimate goal, to make a first comer your regular reader.
This is where we all become experts on the field but somehow we still can’t do what it’s asked from us. How many times have you read about writing unique fresh content, replying to your visitor’s comments and removing ads from your blog? I guess you’ve stopped counting. I know, I’ve read at least a dozen times, if not more, lectures and reports about attracting new visitors and keeping the old ones but established bloggers still make the same mistakes they did when they first began blogging. Why? I don’t know, they’re only human and they strive to make money (Greed will bury as all).
It’s one thing to make mistakes and learn from them and it’s another thing to make mistakes and repeat them. That’s not learning anymore, that’s ignorance. What’s more worth to you, revenue or your readers? If you went for the first option I belive MFA sites are perfect for you but if you appreciate people taking time to read what you have to say, you should really devote more time to your returning visitors. Why? Returning visitors mean loyalty to a certain degree (until you mess up) and when they’re happy there’s a big chance you’ll get recommended to their friends and family. That’s not a big deal, it’s a huge deal because nothing can be more powerful than a mouth-to-mouth FREE promotion. Ads you don’t have to pay for, unbeatable.
With more visitors you begin to grow your network of readers, you begin to grow your RSS readership, more comments begin to appear on your blog, you become more popular. It’s like the whole city gone mad, there’s constantly something going on. With popularity you begin to increase your stats and with good stats there’s usualy more money in your pocket. More money means more promotion and even more popularity and one day without even realizing you become one of the top popular bloggers on the net. Isn’t that something you have always wanted? Their is more incentive in keeping your visitors and goverments happy.

Thanx Dan for caring me, your returning visitor.
Strange coincidence, both of us are writing on the same subject at a time, gaining the trust of readers! Check out mine at: http://mtherald.com/blog/deeds-that-can-build-trust-in-your-blog/
