Fans all over the world will be waiting with baited breath for the launch of the Constellation Program. Let’s hope that their breath is not held as the project has just been postponed from 2013 to 2015. That’s a long time to wait for anyone: best get back to the Star Wars and Star Trek DVDs!
In what is thought to be a simply an accumulation of small set backs and miscalculations – rather, fortunately, than one big disaster – the NASA team have made the sensible decision to postpone. NASA have, in the past, been known to sacrifice human safety for the sake of timely launches and public relations. A false economy if ever there was one, especially when one considers that the disaster that was the Space Shuttle.
There is still a lot of work to do though, and this is demonstrated by the recent start of the design reviews for the Ares rocket. While it might sound like a successful design review will mean that Ares is ready to be built (and with 7 years to spare!) but only that it is on the first rung of a long ladder that leads quite literally to the stars. The Ares rocket will power the Orbit shuttle into space. The Ares rocket is, naturally, crucial to the project’s success.
